Hunting
The County of Heves lies in a transitionary land where the Great Plain and the Highlands meet. It is bordered on the south-east by the River Tisza which meanders through the countryside, and on the north by the rocky peaks of the Mátra Mountains and the Bükk Mountains. Only few of the Hungarian counties can boast with such a varied landscape and such large stock of games as the County of Heves. The diverse stock of games of the plains, gentle hills, forests and pine forests offers a wonderful opportunity for those engaged in hunting.

Horse Riding, Schools for Horse Riding in Heves County
The Hungarian breeding farm of the Lippizan stud, founded in 1480, can be found in Szilvásvárad. The Bükk-plateau provides for them a natural environment similar to that of the mountains surrounding Trieste.

Cycling - Bike Tours
Those interested in biking can choose from at least fifty different routes. The bike tours lead us through the Bükk Mountains. We get help for these tours from the book titled "Kalandozások Heves megyében" ("Adventures in Heves County"), which has been published in English, German, Hungarian and Dutch.

Winter Sports
In winter, when the land is covered with snow and the landscape is clad in white, comes the time for sledging, skiing and it seems that all of a sudden everybody is in jocular spirits. The best ski-slopes can be found in the Mátra Mountains: at Kékesteto the most popular 'western' slope is 2.2 kms long, the ski-slope at Galyateto is 690 metres, the one in Mátraszentimre is 340 metres and the one in Mátraszentistván is 540 metres long, and on each slope ski-lifts make the task of skiers easier. A number of maintained forest paths are suitable for cross-country skiing and ski-tours.

Water-sports
At the Tisza-lake almost all water-sports can be pursued in perfect conditions according to one's liking and taste: windsurfing, boating, kayaking, jet-skiing or water-biking.

Fishing
Enormous-sized fish live in our lakes- catching them is a matter of expertise, skillfullness and a bit of luck. Recommended waters for fishing: Tisza-lake, Storage-lake at Egerszalók, Storage-lake at Markaz and the lake at Verpelét
