Travel to Budapest

By plane
From more than 32 countries and 48 cities have direct flights to Budapest Ferihegy International Airport from all over the World. All of the main international airlines and low cost airlines fly to Budapest Airport. To get to the city centre, you may take the airport minibus, a taxi or the scheduled bus and metro lines.

On highway
Budapest has excellent highway connections not only with its neighbouring, but also with all European countries and cities.

The Hungarian Bus Company (Volánbusz Rt.) runs regular buses (Eurolines) to more than 15 European countries.

When travelling by car you can reach Budapest by crossing more than 250 borders, some of them are restricted for the citizens of Hungary and those of neighbouring countries.
To use the Hungarian highways you have to pay a fee. Highway vignettes can be bought at petrol stations and at some kiosks.

By train
The Hungarian State Railway Company (MÁV Rt.) runs express trains to the main cities of Europe.

By water
You can travel by water from Budapest to Vienna on a hydrofoil from April to end of October organised by the Hungarian Shipping Company (MAHART RT.). The tour takes 5 hours from Vienna to Budapest and 6 hours back.
