Eger is situated in northern Hungary, only 127 km away from Budapest . The city lies in the Eger valley, in a hilly area between the thickly wooded Mátra and Bükk Mountains. The baroque town of Eger with its huge past history, historic monuments and world-famous wines is one of Hungary's most popular tourist destinations outside of Budapest. The city is an Episcopal residence for more than 1000 years.
The main attraction of the city is the Castle, which walls include the Gothic remains of the Medieval cathedral, the renovated episcopal palace and the Castle museum.
The region of Eger is world-famous about its wines, thanks to the settling French (13 th century) , bringing the knowledge of viticulture. The city is the home of the legendary Bull's Blood wine.
Thermal tourism is also playing a huge role in the city's life, based on the nearly 50 °C thermal springs of Eger.
